Top IPL Pro Doré Robinson & Daughter Sky Rose

Doré Robinson is one heck of a gal! A super athlete with an amazing background in competitive sports. She has been hitting the IPL stage since 2016 and has achieved Pro Qualifications in six division. Including Bodybuilding, Figure, Fitness Angels, Athletic, Sports Model and Evening Gown. Two years ago she gave birth to her first child, the beautiful Sky Rose. We just had to learn more about this phenomenal human being!
SEAM MAGAZINE: Hi, and welcome to SEAM Magazine!
DORÉ ROBINSON: Thanks!
SEAM: You are quite the accomplished Physique Competitor, holding six IPL Pro Qualifications. Including Bodybuilding, Figure, Fitness Angels, Athletic, Sports Model and Evening Gown. Which division is your favorite and why?
DORÉ: Bodybuilding is definitely my favorite division. It has the most unique poses and the opportunity to really express your creativity and individuality during your routine at Finals. Plus, I naturally have a lot of muscle mass. So I feel more comfortable in this division.
SEAM: What was your sports/fitness regimen like growing up? Have you been an athlete all of your life?
DORÉ: Yes, I have been an athlete all my life. I actually earned a full scholarship to Notre Dame for discus/shotput/hammer. I held four school records there. Then did a Masters degree at the university of Florida, where I qualified for NCAA Championships in all three events. My best finish was 11th place in discus.
I was always strong. I started powerlifting and Olympic lifting in high school and college with my track team. However, I was never very lean until I met my husband, LaMark Robinson. He is a personal trainer who helped me loose over 80lbs and keep it off since 2015.
SEAM: Your daughter, Sky Rose, is now 2 years old! Congratulations to you and her! Beautiful little girl with a very pretty name by the way! What sort of changes to your fitness activity did you make while pregnant?
DORÉ: I took a whole year off to breastfeed her, which was a challenge. The hormones made it difficult to get lean again until I weaned her last November and was able to get stage lean for the show in January.
SEAM: After giving birth, what was it like to ramp your gym activity back up? Was there a strategy?
DORÉ: While I was pregnant I did my best to stay active. I ran and lifted weights all the way up until my 3rd trimester. I modified wherever I needed to. But, towards the end, I started having contractions early and she was born two weeks early.
SEAM: Does having a child make you more active or does it slow you down a bit?
DORÉ: After giving birth, I had to make a lot of changes to my fitness routine. Most importantly, I couldn’t spend the same amount of time I used to. Plus, you definitely don’t get as much sleep the first year. I am lucky that we have a gym in our basement. So I was still able to workout with the baby in a pack-n-play down there with me. Or else with a baby monitor watching her nap while I got it in.
It forces you to be more efficient. I started doing more HIIT and lighter weights, rather than the heavy powerlifting I did before. Luckily I didn’t lose very much muscle after giving birth and all I had to do was tighten up my diet and lean out.
SEAM: You’ve competed in two IPL contests since giving birth. What is your competition stage experience post-birth like compared to before you had a child?
DORÉ: My competition stage experience was similar pre and post baby.
SEAM: What tips would you give to other women who either want to become pregnant or are pregnant, when it comes to keeping their health and fitness in order?
DORÉ: My advice for women who are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant is to eat as clean as possible and maintain your current fitness level as much as possible. This will make it easier for that baby weight to come off later and will prevent you from losing muscle mass.
