From the competition stage to her closet, Adro Gainer embodies confidence, creativity, and individuality. Known for her signature “Timeless Tomboy Chic” style, she blends athletic strength with fashion-forward elegance, proving that power and poise can coexist. With roots shaped by her mother’s artistry and her own fearless imagination, Adro has turned self-expression into both an aesthetic and a lifestyle. In this exclusive conversation with SEAM Magazine, she opens up about her early inspirations, her love of fashion as storytelling, and how she continues to craft a life and a look that’s entirely her own.

"It was never about blending in; it was about creating something all your own."

SEAM Magazine: Adro, welcome to SEAM Magazine! How does it feel to be here talking all things fitness, fashion, and fab?
Adro Gainer: It feels incredible, thank you for having me! Fitness and fashion are two worlds that have shaped who I am, and I love any chance to share how they come together in my life.
SEAM: Your mom was both a seamstress and a model for McCall’s patterns. What’s your earliest memory of watching her work and feeling inspired by fashion?
Adro: One of my earliest memories, besides her marking curtains, is my Halloween costumes. They were elaborate and intricate compared to the other kids who wore something from Party City. I was basically doing full-on cosplay. My mom taught me the value of being unique and original, and that shaped my entire view of fashion. It was never about blending in; it was about creating something all your own. Around that same time, I remember flipping through magazines at Barnes & Noble and being completely mesmerized by Cartier. Their designs showed me that fashion could be timeless, powerful, and aspirational all at once.

"That prom dress became a statement of originality and resourcefulness. It wasn’t just a gown; it was proof that we could create something one of a kind that embodied who I was."

"Black and brown ground me — they feel timeless and strong. Pops of color, though, are where the personality shines through."

SEAM: Black, brown, and pops of color are your go-to palette. What is it about these tones that make you feel the most confident and authentic?
Adro: Black and brown ground me — they feel timeless and strong. Pops of color, though, are where the personality shines through. It’s the same philosophy I had as a teen when I hand-sewed teddy bears for all my friends, carefully boxed with labels so they’d remember me for being unique. Even back then, I believed details and personal touches made things unforgettable — much like Cartier’s ability to make one detail elevate an entire piece.
SEAM: You call yourself “Sporty Spice” with “auntie vibes forever.” How do those two seemingly different sides show up in your wardrobe?
Adro: It’s sneakers with a blazer, or joggers with an oversized cardigan. It’s comfort with a nurturing edge. I can bring a little sparkle and playfulness like Sailor Moon, but I’ll also show up cozy, warm, and steady — that’s my inner Mr. Rogers. It’s both sides living in the same closet.

"...I was a total daddy’s girl, but my dad never gender-normed me. I could wear whatever felt good..."

SEAM: What’s one piece in your closet right now that feels the most like ‘you’?
Adro: An oversized, slightly scratchy, scruffy brown sweater. It’s not glamorous, but it’s real — it’s comfort, warmth, and a little bit of edge all in one. It reminds me of Mr. Rogers’ coziness but in my own Timeless Tomboy Chic way. That sweater feels like home and confidence at the same time.
SEAM: When you’re competing or doing a photoshoot, how do you choose outfits that balance athletic performance with fashion flair?
Adro: Movement always comes first — I need to feel capable and powerful. Then I layer in personality through colors, cuts, and details. The goal is the same as when I made teddy bears for my friends — to create something memorable and unique that leaves an impression.
SEAM: If you could collaborate with any designer to create a capsule collection, who would it be and what would the collection’s theme be?
Adro: I would collaborate with Cartier. Their pieces are timeless, powerful, and elegant — everything I want my style to represent. Honestly, it’s a shame those watches cost so much, because if they were affordable, I’d own them all. My capsule collection would focus on wearable luxury — everyday pieces that carry the same sophistication and confidence as Cartier jewelry, but designed to be accessible to more people.

"...they too can build a life — and a look — that’s as unique and unforgettable as their own story."

SEAM: What advice would you give to someone trying to develop a personal style that feels as true to them as yours does to you?
Adro: Start with comfort and vision. Ask yourself: How do I see myself in my wildest fantasies? What colors make me feel alive? Don’t just copy trends — create your own story. Whether it’s a handmade prom dress, an oversized cozy sweater, or inspiration from Cartier, Mr. Rogers, or Sailor Moon, make your style a reflection of your truest self.
SEAM: What’s the one message you hope readers take away from your journey in both fitness and fashion?
Adro: That strength and style are not opposites — they empower each other. Fitness taught me resilience, fashion taught me originality, and together they’ve made me who I am. I hope readers see that they too can build a life — and a look — that’s as unique and unforgettable as their own story. SEAM
