KATE TIMP

FIFTY-EIGHT YEARS YOUNG

IPL PRO ATHLETE

New 2023 IPL Arizona Championship Women’s Athletic Masters Pro, Kate Timp! This one is a little extra special for me because I coached Kate for this show!

First, let me say that the joy is most certainly in the journey. It’s about pushing ourselves to reach new heights and accomplish new goals. And, of course, living a healthy, active lifestyle!

Staying the course on this type of path and having this mindset, you will ALWAYS win. Even if that does not mean 1st place, a medal, a trophy or a Pro Card.

That being said, we definitely had some big goals for this show! In the end, Kate would place 2nd in Women’s Athletic Open. We were able to snag that Pro Card in Masters though! And another big goal for this show was to step on the Pro Masters stage for Kate’s Pro Debut, in the event she would earn the Masters Pro Card.

We had to settle for 2nd place in Pro Masters, behind reigning IPL APEX Women’s Athletic Masters Pro Champion, La’net Spence! But what a ride!

At age 57 Kate Timp is going strong, and holding her own on stage with athletes who are decades younger. And not only is Kate enjoying success in the world of physique competition, but she also has a successful business for Online Competition Prep, Fitness and Nutrition Coaching for Women desiring sustainable weight loss, body transformation and optimal health.

BEN YOSEF: First off, major congratulations to you on all of your accomplishments at the Arizona Championship this past April! You rocked it! And I am so proud of you! I definitely want to talk with you about your life and projects away from the stage as well, but let’s chat for a bit about the show. How are you feeling about what you achieved this past spring, now that the dust has settled?

KATE TIMP: Thank you, Ben! That really means a lot to me. The competition was super fun and I love the IPL! The staff and competitors were so supportive and encouraging to me and all of the other competitors. I competed in another league previously and the atmosphere at the IPL competition was definitely on another level. I felt amazing at the competition. I had trained hard and felt confident with my physique on stage. I was so excited to win a Masters Pro Card! It was a very special moment.

BEN: Love it! And I am so happy to hear that you had such a good experience competing in the IPL! At age 57, you do not appear to be slowing down! What is it like being on stage with athletes who, in some cases, are decades younger?

"I am not slowing down, that is for sure! And, I love being on stage with women athletes decades younger than myself. I am inspired by them being so confident at their age."

KATE: I am not slowing down, that is for sure! And, I love being on stage with women athletes decades younger than myself. I am inspired by them being so confident at their age. And many of them are young moms getting back in shape after having babies. I had 6 kids myself so I know that’s not easy. And, I love that they are inspired by me competing at their level at my age. Which is now 58. I had a birthday since the competition. [laughs]

BEN: Well, you inspire ME! And happy belated birthday! I guess we are going to have to change the title of this interview before it releases! [laughs] I am just about a half a year away from hitting the big Five-O myself. So, I’m catching up to you! [laughs] And I want to be like you when I grow up.  So that’s a good segue, with regards to motherhood. And a mother of six at that. What were your experiences like during your pregnancies, with regards to your health and fitness? What kind of pregnant mother were you?

KATE: Thank you, Ben! That’s so sweet of you to say. And, yes, that’s a good segue into motherhood. [laughs] I did have six babies! Being in good shape at 58 after having six babies is inspiring to a lot of women. Many feel it’s impossible after having babies and going through peri-menopause and menopause. Most women gain 10-15 pounds between the ages of 45 and 55. But, it doesn’t have to be that way.

AFTER I had number six I weighed over 200 lbs. I didn’t even want to know exactly how much I weighed, so I didn’t look at the scale. It was then that I decided to get myself back into shape and tried every diet out there and I ran a lot at first.

"Then I switched to strength training, which really was a game changer...I vowed to coach other women to lose their own baby weight and menopause weight and finally feel confident in their skin."

Then I switched to strength training, which really was a game changer. I did lose the weight with sheer willpower, but I wanted to learn as much as I could so I could understand the physical science and mindset behind it. I vowed to coach other women to lose their own baby weight and menopause weight and finally feel confident in their skin.

So, I got a Masters degree in Exercise Science and Nutrition and became a college professor. I also got certified as a Health Coach, Nutrition Coach, Life Coach and Personal Trainer. Now, I help women at all stages of their life create the health, bodies and lives of their dreams.

BEN: Love it. And kudos to you for having the ambition to roll up your sleeves, search for answers, understanding, and figure all this out! Many people will never find that formula of health and fitness for themselves. This is sad but true. It’s also great to have people like you out there helping and guiding people to a healthier life. Once again, very inspirational. What made you take your physique to the stage?

"I chose to compete in the IPL's Women’s Athletic division this time because it allowed me to show my musculature. But, I do like the super cute, blingy bikinis, high heels and tiaras in the Bikini division..."

KATE: That’s a great question, Ben. Mostly I wanted to take my physique to the stage to challenge myself to be seen. That has always been hard for me. But, I knew I wanted to help other women create the body, health and life they desire. So, I wanted to put myself out there in a big way to inspire them and be an example that age and motherhood do not stand in their way.

I also really enjoy physical challenges and competitions and so this was perfect. I like weight training and eat super healthy so the diet was not too difficult for me. I chose to compete in IPLs Women’s Athletic division this time because it allowed me to show my musculature. But, I do like the super cute, blingy bikinis, high heels and tiaras in the Bikini division though so you’ll probably see me back there some day. I’ll be the one in the cute shiny blinged out bikini with the muscles. [laughs] The last reason is it was just a lot of fun!

BEN: Awesome! With your work ethic, energy and physique, I am quite sure you will do well in whatever division you choose to enter! But it will definitely be great seeing you hit the IPL Bikini stage! Kate, it has been an honor chatting with you and learning more about you. Once again congratulations on everything! Any final thoughts for INSPIRE Magazine?

KATE: It has been an honor chatting with you as well, Ben. And, thank you! Working with you and competing in the IPL has been an awesome experience. My final thoughts would be a summation of why I chose to compete on the IPL stage. I hope to inspire women. You are worthy of whatever you desire! You are not too old, too out of shape or too anything else. You are worthy of the body, health and life of your dreams, at any age! INSPIRE
