New IPL Fitness Angels Pro, Lauren Oglevee
“Fitness Angels was a dream. I absolutely loved putting on those wings. I felt confident and beautiful.”
Lauren Oglevee was definitely one of the most improved competitors at the 2020 1ST Annual IPL New Year’s Classic Pro/Am in Burbank California on January 18th.
Four months prior Lauren hit the IPL stage for the first time at the SoCal Pro/Am. At that contest she placed 2nd in Bikini Novice Class A, 5th in Bikini Open Class B and 4th in Sports Model Open Class A.
Fast forward to January 2020 and Lauren was back on the IPL stage. This time she would return to the Bikini division and also add two new divisions. First in Bikini Open she landed in 4th place. Then she would take flight in the Fitness Angels division where she placed 1st in a stacked Open class, earning her IPL Pro Card.
She also competed in Evening Gown for the first time, placing 4th in the Open.
“I ALSO GAINED A LOT OF CONFIDENCE DURING THE SECOND PREP. I FELT BETTER IN MY POSING AND KNOWING MY ANGLES.”
BEN YOSEF: Congrats on your showing at the New Year’s Classic! You looked amazing at that show! How are you feeling about what went down that day?
LAUREN OGLEVEE: Thank you so much! It was a very exciting day. I’m very happy with the results. Stepping on stage, feeling strong and fit, was the ultimate win. Getting my Pro Card was the icing on the cake. It was a great day altogether! I’m proud of the work that I did to get to the stage and extremely grateful for the support from my team and coaches.
BEN: Your fist IPL contest was the SoCal Pro/Am last September. You had a pretty good day at that show as well, placing 2nd in Bikini Novice Class A, 5th in Bikini Open Class B and 4th in Sports Model Open Class A. What was it like hitting the IPL stage that first time?
LAUREN: I was so nervous and really didn’t know what to expect. Our coaches did a great job giving direction for what to do when on stage. However, getting on stage that first moment is intense. Which judge do I look at? Am I smiling? Am I presenting my hard work correctly? I was grateful to be on stage with amazing women. I felt encouraged and comfortable with them by my side. It was exciting!
BEN: After that first contest you would return to the stage just four months later. How were you feeling after that first contest? And what was your prep, training and strategy like leading into your second show?
LAUREN: The second show prep was a lot different. For the first show I dropped about 25lbs. I had not been that weight since high school. I loved how far I had come and was motivated to do better for the next show.
I saw my scores and that I needed more muscularity. So the second prep consisted of maintaining a low body weight and body fat while increasing muscle mass. It was a long haul to be on prep for eight months. But totally worth it. My body got fitter and more defined. I also gained a lot of confidence during the second prep. I felt better in my posing and knowing my angles.
Two of my good friends joined the ride with me and I got to help them through their first prep. It was definitely more fun the second time around because I knew what to expect with the diet and the workout regimen. I learned how my body reacted to certain carbs differently. It was a great learning experience and has inspired me to go further into educating myself on nutrition.
BEN: For your second show you also made some significant changes in the classes that you entered. You dropped the Bikini Novice class. And dropped Sports Model. Then you added Fitness Angels and Evening Gown. What made you decide on these moves?
LAUREN: I felt that entering three categories made the most sense for me. With each category, you have to practice different posing and prepare your presentation to perfection. I wanted to try a lot of the categories eventually, but knew it would take time. So, after the first show, I had a better understanding of the show day, the category requirements and where I would show my strengths.
I consulted with my coaches and they agreed that Fitness Angels and Evening Gown would be a good addition for the second show. The Sports Model division is super competitive. And the winners know their sport. It helps. I’m an Equestrian. We ride in tail coats, breeches and tall boots. The look doesn’t translate to the stage. But I’m working on something for the next show. I will enter that category again. Fitness Angels was a dream. I absolutely loved putting on those wings. I felt confident and beautiful. And I loved my gold gown. I felt like a movie star.
BEN: Makes total sense! Well, once again congrats on your win. You were awesome. What tips would you give to girls out there who are looking to achieve what you have in Fitness Angels?
LAUREN: First, find the right wings and suit combo. This was super important for my confidence. I felt fierce. Thank you to Tantra444. Second, practice walking and posing. It’s very different than being in a bikini only. The wings add a whole new element. You want to present the wings as an extension of your physique. You can get creative. Don’t be afraid to be sexy and have fun in your presentation. This is your time to shine.
BEN: Love it! What is next for you and when will we see you back on the IPL stage?
LAUREN: I’m continuing to work on my fitness. This has been life-changing for me. It has helped with my horse back riding and I’m excited for where that has taken me. And I continue to grow as a rider. My goals in the fitness world are to get my Pro Card in the Bikini division and be a Pro Champion in Fitness Angels. I will be back on the IPL stage in October! I would also like to thank Luis and Bee from HWD Fitness for being my coaches. NATURAL BIKINI
