New Masters Bikini Model Pro La'net Spence

At 53 years old, La’net Spence achieved an inspiring milestone by earning her IPL Pro Card in the Bikini Model Masters class at the September 2024 IPL Golden Heart Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska. La’net’s dedication and versatility on stage are undeniable, and just two months later, she went on to secure her first Pro win for the division (taking her IPL career Pro victory count to 10) at IPL APEX VIII in Phoenix, Arizona. A story that will be featured in the Spring 2025 issue of NATURALMAG. In the following Natural Bikini Magazine interview, La’net shares the mindset and preparation that helped her reach these impressive accomplishments, while also offering insight into her roles as a coach and mentor.
"I was ELATED! We are so blessed to have the ability to cross over to different divisions within the IPL..."
NATURAL BIKINI MAGAZINE: La’net, congratulations on your new Pro status in the IPL Bikini Model Masters division! Can you describe how you felt after earning that Pro Card at the Golden Heart Classic?
LA’NET SPENCE: I was ELATED! We are so blessed to have the ability to cross over to different divisions within the IPL, learn new posing skills, wear new suits…IT’S FANTASTIC!
NBM: You’re known for your versatility on the IPL competition stage and competed in multiple divisions at the Golden Heart Classic. How do you mentally and physically prepare for such a range of divisions, from Bodybuilding to Bikini Model?
LS: Not going to lie, at first I kept asking myself “how do I keep all this straight?” I like to think of it as habit stacking. You already have your routine and then you stack the new on top of the existing program.
I had to scale a little bit to fit it all in. For me, it was important to practice DAILY…all classes, all posing. My team had me for accountability. THEY COACHED ME.
"It conditions your body when you’re versatile. Bodies need confusion to keep growing."
NBM: What do you think set you apart in the Bikini Model Masters division?
LS: Well, one of my favorite outfits of all time is a bikini. I set an intention to get comfortable wearing heels in a bikini. Then made it my mission to have fun! It was a blast!
NBM: Your success doesn’t stop at competitions. You’re also a coach and have been featured as a SEAM Magazine Cover Girl. How do these roles complement each other, and how do you balance them with your competition schedule?
LS: I strive to be a leader by example. Discipline will outweigh motivation some days. That never goes away. The only way to stay fresh in the game is to just do it, especially when you don’t want to. When you feel like you don’t want to do something, perhaps it’s time to add something new. It makes you appreciate the comfort zone. It conditions your body when you’re versatile. Bodies need confusion to keep growing.
"Life events. Distractions are strong when you’re trying to stay in shape and on track."
NBM: What has been the most challenging aspect of working your way up to become a 10X IPL Pro Champion?
LS: Life events. Distractions are strong when you’re trying to stay in shape and on track. Our team addresses this directly as part of the training program. For example, this fall, our team had a family member in ICU, a family member suddenly pass away, a grandbaby born a month early with a heart condition. Those are just the big ones.
We pray through it, cry about it, pray some more, seriously let God be the program Director. Making decisions alongside each other helps keep us in check.
NBM: What does your preparation look like for the Masters Bikini Model division, specifically? Are there any unique aspects to your prep or approach that you find most effective for this division?
"I think people would be surprised at how much posing can change the body shape. Pose like you MEAN IT."
LS: For this division, we zeroed in on coming in lean, especially in the posterior chain. I think people would be surprised at how much posing can change the body shape. Pose like you MEAN IT.
NBM: As a seasoned competitor and coach, what advice would you give to athletes looking to make their mark in the Bikini Model Division?
"You can participate in any division you set your mind to. Start with a vision, then work toward it."
LS: You can participate in any division you set your mind to. Start with a vision, then work toward it. We are not trying to be skinny on stage or in real life. So set your mind and go for it! Everybody is different, and we all deserve a spot on stage in whatever division we choose to participate in. That’s the beauty of competing in the IPL and being natural athletes. NATURAL BIKINI
