Six Fun Ways To Wear Your Hair This Winter
Styling your hair in the winter can be a challenge. Take inspiration from these six styles, and your hair will be anything but boring this winter.
Winter can do a real number on your hair. Dry air can make your hair limp, dull and charged with static electricity. So, what’s a girl to do? You could just keep a warm hat on until spring. Or you can combat winter hair problems with these six fun-and-fashionable ways to wear your hair this winter.
Try headbands in trendy fabrics such as velvet or sequins.
1. TRY A CLOTH HEADBAND
Cloth headbands are sleek and comfortable–and they can help control your hair’s static. These easy headbands are also high fashion. They were all over Miu Miu runways in Paris. Try headbands in trendy fabrics such as velvet or sequins. If your hair needs extra control, sweep it into a ponytail behind the headband.
2. ADD SOME SPARKLY BARRETTES
Barrettes and clips can keep your hair out of your face and add some glitz to your winter look. Versace showcased gold barrettes on recent runways, while Simone Rocha featured pearl-encrusted hair clips. For a daring look, try several barrettes on each side of your part, or just over each ear. To smooth your winter hair before donning barrettes, apply hair oil or a moisturizing leave-in conditioner.
3. HALF UP, HALF DOWN
If you want to wear your hair up, but don’t want your ears and neck to get cold, half up, half down may be your go-to winter hairstyle. Several models sported this youthful look in Dior’s ready-to-wear collection. You can opt to wear this style slicked back or natural. Other options include ponytail holders or clips, or even a mini bun.
4. SLEEK PONYTAIL
There’s a reason sleek ponytails are classic. They make you look pulled-together, confident, and powerful. Models showcasing Roberto Cavalli’s recent collection wore slicked-back ponytails. To get this look, first, spray your hair with hairspray. Decide whether you want your ponytail to be low or high. Then, use a smoothing brush to gather your hair into a tight ponytail, wrapping it with an elastic tie.
5. NATURAL HAIR
Heat treatments such as blow dryers and curling irons can zap your hair of much-needed hydration, particularly in winter. Luckily, many designers are featuring natural-looking hair for their collections, including Anna Sui, Vivienne Tam, and Brandon Maxwell. This hippy-inspired look is beautiful and easy to wear. Just apply a volumizing spray to your roots, comb your fingers through your hair, and make a part in the center or off to the side.
6. BRAIDS OF ANY SIZE
Channel your inner snow queen and try a braid or two. Even if you don’t have fairy tale-length hair, several small twists can frame your face while looking on-trend. Designers such as Jill Sander, Stella Jean, and Christian Siriano featured braids in recent runway shows. If you braid just a small section of your hair, keep the rest loose and natural. The contrast of braided and loose is quite up-to-the-minute.
